Show Redmen Preparing To Defend !! Region Baseball Title Cedar High School Redmen, defending de-fending Region ' Ten baseball champions, will be after another anoth-er title this season as they prepare pre-pare for the opening of the 1963 1 season. - . . ( Coach Bruce Decker Indicated that the Redmen would travel to Delta Friday of this week for; a practice session against the Rabbits. It will be the only practice prac-tice game for the Redmen prior to opening league competition the following week against tough Hurricane. The Cedar-Hurricane game will be played at the Cedar City Municipal Park on Friday, Apr. 5. Six men will return from the 1962 squad to form the nucleus for the action this year, Coach Decker stated. They will include Wes Roberts, who catches, and who will see extensive action at first base; Hans Chamberlain and Lee Hunter, both regular outfielders; John Logan, a catcher catch-er and outfielder; Steve Judd, shortstop and Merrill Dalley, second se-cond base. It will be noted that none of the returning men have seen mound duty. The sophomore ranks will be called upon to furnish the bulk of the pitching for the season and therein may be the big problem pro-blem for the Redmen this season. Kim Leigh, a junior, will be seeing action on the mound although al-though he did not appear in any games during the 1962 season. Leading prospect from the sophomores sopho-mores is lanky Fred Esplin and he Is expected to receive help from Mike Carr and John Black. In 1962 the Redmen advanced to the finals losing out to American Ameri-can Fork for the state title 5 to 1. After capturing the Region crown, the Redmen defeated Judge Memorial 3 to 2 In the state semi-finals competition. This year six teams will com-ptte com-ptte In the Region. They Include Cedar City, Dixie, Hurricane, Ka-nab, Ka-nab, Parowan and Enterprise. |
