Show CSU to Host Science Fair Here Friday and Saturday Final arrangements are being completed for the Southern Utah Science Fair to be held at College Col-lege of Southern Utah Friday and Saturday, Mar. 29 and 30. Under the local sponsorship of CSU and Cedar City Kiwanis Club, the Fair will draw participants from Iron, Kane, Beaver, Washington and Garfield counties. High and junior high school students from these areas will compete with a variety of displays on all phases phas-es of science Including such things as biological exhibits, rocks and minerals, rockets, racers, rac-ers, and a number of other ideas devised and worked out by the students themselves. Professor Frank Faux, representing repre-senting CSU as co-chairman of the fair, said exhibits will be shown throughout the Science Center and some will be on display dis-play by 6 p. m. Friday. Judging will taken place Saturday at 9 a. m. after which all exhibits will be ope'.i to the pubil" until 5 p. m. Approximately 21 awards will be provided by the Kiwanis Club under the direction of Haymer Morris, vocational guidance chairman. These will include savings bonds as well as cash awards and certificates. Each participant will receive a certl- demy of Arts, Science and Letters, Let-ters, which is the state sponsor of the event. The students will be entertained by the CSU Science Sci-ence department while on com-pus. com-pus. Winning exhibitors will compete com-pete for an opportunity to represent repre-sent the state in the Regional Science Fair in Albuquerque, N. M. in May. Winners from this event will compete in the National Nation-al Science Fair in Washington -ton, D. C, which is sponsored by National Science Service. The top winners will visit President Kennedy and receive a number of outstanding awards, including includ-ing some research grants from the government and industry. |
