Show Region Six Music Festival Readied; Parade Set for Four in Afternoon Final plans have been made and the last minor details are being be-ing taken care of this week for the biggest musical event of the school year in Region Six, the music festival, in which the 11 high schools of the region will take part with the addition of the high school band from Ely, Nev., it is announced by LaNoir Asay, head of the music department depart-ment at Parowan High School which is host school for this big event. The muile festival will be held on Saturday, May 7, and it is expected that 1200 music students stu-dents will be in Tarowan for the occasion. The events of the day will begin be-gin at 8 a.m. Saturday with registration regis-tration of all students taking part and the assignment to their contest con-test locations. Contest work will get under way at 9 a. m. and will continue through the day to 4 p. m. with a short break at noon or luncn. Band Parade Route Promptly at 4 p. m. the massed band parade will get under wayj with each band to march downj Main Street trom First South toj Second North Street, maneuvering maneuver-ing and plaving while enroute. The bands will be spaced at five minute intervals, and will assemble as-semble on First South in front of the Iron County Rest home, from where they will start their march. I Main Street will be cleared for this event with no parking or1 traffic for three blocks, and all! people are urged to assembly for this event. The public is also Invited to attend the various contests con-tests during the day, and those interested may got a schedule of the contest events at the high I school building. Contest Judges Judges for the various contests are as follows, Mr. Asay states: Ormon R. Weight, one time music Instructor at Parowan High and now music instructor at the Olympus High in Salt Lake City, and Dr. Clair Johnson," head of the music department at Weber College at Ogden, will judge the bands which hav been divided into two divisions. Dr. N. W. Christiansen, head of the music department at U S A C at Logan will judge fhe orchestras, and Elvis B. Terry, Enterprise native and music instructor at the Lincoln Lin-coln High School at Orem, will judge the choruses. The various contests will be held in the high school gymnasium gymnas-ium and auditorium and in tho Parowan First-Second Ward chapel cha-pel and recreation hall, we understand, un-derstand, and members of the Band Mothers organization will act as hostesses at each of these places to greet students and patrons pa-trons who may attend. Six local organizations have organized or-ganized to help furnish food and refreshments to those who attend at-tend the day's events. They are the three wards, Parowan First, Second and Third, the Parowan Stake Relief Society, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Daughters Daugh-ters of Utah Pioneers. Refreshments Refresh-ments will be available at the high school, the chapel and recreation rec-reation hall and at the Ram building on Main Street. |
