Show Cedar City Justice Cites Need For Saety Concern "Bring 'em up, don't run 'era down!" In these words Judge David A. Smith of the Cedar City Justice Court, today made a plea to Iron County motorists to watch out for children In traffic. Judge Smith was speaking in connection connec-tion with the child pedestrian and bicycle safety program being sponsored locally by the Cedar Safety committee and the Na-lonal Na-lonal Safety Council. . "Every year thousands of children child-ren are Injured and killed In motor vehicle accidents," the judge said. "To Improve this tragic situation, every driver must keep alert for children." According to NSC statistics, 4,400 children under 15 were killed in traflc In 1953, and approximately ap-proximately 225,000 youngsters In this age group were Injured, he revealed. The Judge also pointed out that In 1953 almost 2.000 of the younsters who lost their lives were pedestralns. Four safety rules have been set up for drivers to follow. They are: 1. Always expect the unexpected unexpect-ed where children are concerned, remembering that children are unoredictable and that the motorist mo-torist must think for them in traffic. 2. Give young bike riders every break. 3. Drive with extreme caution near schools and playgrounds which are becoming more and more hazardous as favorable weather Increases. 4. Be especially alert In scehool areas for signs, signals, traffic police, and for children themselves. |
