Show Utah State Highway Patrol Superintendent Calls for Action in Combatting Fatalities Marion A. Snow, superintendent superintend-ent of the Utah State Highway Patrol, in a bulletin issued during dur-ing the week, has issued a warning warn-ing to all patrolmen that it is up to that organization to put a stop to the apalling traffic fatality fa-tality toll on Utah highways. He points out that although all other oth-er means of combating traffic accidents are important, rigid law enforcement is the most effective ef-fective weapon. His bulletin to all highway patrol pa-trol enforcement personnel, was as follows: Traffic casualties during the present month indicate in a most forceful manner the immediate need for all out effort on the part of all enforcement personnel. person-nel. We all agree that engineering engineer-ing improvements, traffic safety education, newspaper, radio and television publicity are necessary but the most effective instruments instru-ments with which to combat the highway crash problem are the enforcement officers. No city, county or state throughout the nation has successfully met the situation any other way. May I call upon every man who wears his badge with honor hon-or and honesty to remove his j gloves and do everything possi ble to stop the killings. May I urge that you approach each tour of duty motivated by the desire de-sire and intent of preventing to the best of your ability these so called accidents that stain with blood the highways of our state. May I urge that ou stay out of towns and remain on the job and that you halt every driver you can possibly reach who is observed observ-ed violating the principals of safe and sane driving. All that we can do either individually in-dividually or collectively may be insufficient to the demands of present conditions but to do less than our best is shameful and may actually contribute to the j loss of life. j Your usual response to conditions condi-tions of emergency is expected. |
