Show Contest Slated For Ml Newspaper Week In commemoration of National Newspaper Week the Iron County Record will join other member newspapers of the Utah State Press Association in sponsorship of a state-wide essay contest on j"What My Newspaper Means to Me." Climax of the event, open to high school junior and senior students, will be a Newspaper Week luncheon scheduled for September 30, in Salt Lake City. Cooperating in the contest are the Utah lleadliners chapter of Sigma Delta Chi, national professional pro-fessional journalism fraternity, and the Utah State Press Association. Asso-ciation. Local and state prizes will be awarded. The Record will award $10 in cash to the local winner, who will then compete In the state contest, where first prize will be a $100.00 Savings Bond, with a second prize of a $25.00 Savings Bond. Rules for the contest have been set up on a state-wide basis as follows: 1. Essay subject "What My Newspaper Means to Me," with length to not exceed 1000 words, Open to registered junior and senior students of any high school. 2. Deadline for entry, Sept. 20. Submit essay to Iron County Record through your English teacher, or direct to the news- I paper office. 3. Local winner will compete In the state contest. 4. Entrants should write on one side of the paper only, using Ink or typewriter, and should retain a copy of their essay. Inasmuch as the time between be-tween the opening of school and the deadline for the essay contest con-test is very short, local juniors and seniors should begin now checking up on essay construction construc-tion and on subject material on "What My Newspaper Means to Me." |
