Show Mobile Power Displayed by National Guard J..'Iv..vj:.-.:-..-'-,; oi ' ... v, miMMrtiaiiiin iMnrfi"" - - - .u-.-- - . l1.--- - - - This eight inch, self-propelled howitzer, one used by the 202nd Armored Field Artillery Ar-tillery Battalion, National Guard unit, is in Cedar City now for the purpose of display dis-play and training of NG personnel. Sgts. Mercer D. Smith, left and Blair D. Nelson, Nel-son, are shown inspecting the piece. The carriage is drawn by a Continental, nine cylinder, air cooled aircraft type, 400 IIP engine and is capable of climbing at a GO degree grade. Overall weight of this weapon wea-pon is 80,000 pounds and necessitates a crew of eight with a firing capability of one round per minute sustained firing. The projectile, which can be fired accurately accur-ately at a distance of 18,510 feet, weighs 200 pounds. The powtlcr charge weighs 30 pounds and the over-all leangth of the shell is 35 inches. The howitzer can be seen at the armory in Cedar City. |
