Show Redmen Win Honors at Dixie Meet; Richard Hey wood Sparks Victory Cedar City High School Redmen, behind the individual honors of speed merchaiAt Richard Heywood, captured first place in the Dixie Invitational Track and Field meet at St. George Saturday with a total of 614 points. Heywood, who established two new records at the meet, placed first in a third event and anchored a winning mile relay team, was top man of the day. Kenneth Perkins was another first place winner taking the 880 yard run with ease in the time of 2:08 minutes. Perkins also ran the 880 on the Cedar Redmen winning medley relay team. Sophomore Record In the junior division of the meet the Sophomores of Cedar High placed third behind Woodward Wood-ward Junior High school and 1 Panguitch. Top performance from I the local participants was the .record breaking mile relay. The I Cedar City foursome composed of Dayne Gardner, Bob Clark, Doug-j Doug-j las Bowler and Lee Sherratt clipped off 2 seconds from the 'junior division record with a time of 3:57.3 minutes. Dayne Gardner also placed first in the junior division 440 yard run with a time of 56.7. The time was bettor than the old mark at the Dixie meet but a record had been established. in the tryouts that bettered Gardner's Gard-ner's mark by 310 of a second. D. Corry, fifth. 880--Perkins, first. Mile-Bolander, fifth. 180 low hurdles--Eldon Webster, secona; Roger Haycock, fourth. 120-high hurdles -Gale Fife, fourth. High Jump--Fife, fourth. Polevault--Dan Sheffer, third. Broadjump--Heywood, first. Javalin--Stratton, third. -Shot-Otis McCall, fifth. Weak on Discus The discus throw was the only on-ly event In which a Cedar City man did not place. On the winning medley relay team was Roger Haycock and Webster, 220's, and H. Corry, 410, and Perkins, 880 Winning mile relay team was composed of Stratton, J. D. Corry, Cor-ry, Al Hunter and Heywood. In addition to the 440 win by Gardner In the junior division and the mile relay title, Dwane Leary placed fourth In the 100 and the polevault. Bob Clark finished second in the 440 yard run; Warren Rlgby placed third in the 880 yard run and the 880 yard relay team placed third. |
