The striking painting, "Land of the Navajos" is by Mrs. Edith Hamlin, Mt. Carmel, Utah and Florida artist. More than 150 outstanding paintings have been hung In the College of Southern Utah Memorial Mem-orial Fieldhouse In preparation for the opening of the 15th annual an-nual Cedar City Spring Art Exhibit Ex-hibit on Saturday, April 16. More paintings are expected to arrive Friday and Saturday, so the total to-tal number to be exhibited should reach about 200. The exhibit officially opens on Sunday, April 17, but a pre-show-ing will be held Saturday to allow al-low visitors to C S U Vocational Day to view the exhibit and to give prospective purchasers a chance to make selections. Artists from wide sections of the country from the Pacific to the Atlantic seashores, from the Southwest and Southeast from the Midwest and Intermountain West are represented In the exhibits exhi-bits this year. Many of the exhibitors exhi-bitors have shown their works at most of the previous Cedar City shows, but many others are exhibiting ex-hibiting here this year for the first time. In addition to artists from Utah, Idaho, Colorado and Nevada, Neva-da, New Mexico, California, Arizona, Ari-zona, Pennsylvania, Louisiana, West Virginia, New York, and Florida will be represented In this year's show. Gallery Entries Many of the artists are exhibiting exhibit-ing Individually, but a wide representation rep-resentation of the artists will be Included in exhibits from various galleries about the country, including in-cluding New York City, San Francisco, Fran-cisco, Salt Lake City and Provo. A new plan of providing visitors vis-itors with information about the artists, their background, where they have exhibited and what prizes and awards they have won, has been adopted this year. Each painting exhibited will bear a card giving the name and address ad-dress of the exhibitor and all pertinent Information about him. This information has been available avail-able in the past, but only in a brocure where interested visitors visit-ors could look up the Information Informa-tion if wanted. Since most of the paintings exhibited are offered for sale, prices asked will be listed In the exhibit program this year for the first time. The exhibit will be open for two weeks, from April 17 to May 1, with visitors welcome from 2 to 10 p. m. each day. As In the past guide service for groups will be available through the assistance of the Cedar City Art Guild, Mrs. Boyd C. Paulson, president. |
