Show Varied Business Items Occupy Attention oi Council Finance matters, light, power and water rentals, cemetery care problems and the urgent need for a new city dump ground were among the various Items of business busi-ness discussed at the regular meeting of the City Council held on Tuesday evening of this week. The urgent need for money to pay off many of the small accounts ac-counts payable on the Paragonah power plant construction took up most of the time, and after the matter was discussed thoroughly, thorough-ly, it was finally decided to borrow bor-row up to $21,000 on a revenue anticipation note or bond, with the Bank of Iron County to be probable purchaser. The opinion that this could be done was given city officials by Attorney Elias Hansen of Salt Lake City, upon a showing that power revenues would come to this amount in excels of pledged payments from electric revenues. A resolution was therefore passed by the council that this action be taken. This will relieve the j current financial situation con- , siderably. I An effort is being made to finance fi-nance other purchases of machinery, ma-chinery, etc. on a time payment plan to alleviate the necessity of issuing more bonds or similar obligations. The proposed increase in light, power and water rates to residents resi-dents of the city was discussed at some length. Rates for these services supplied by the city are much lower than similar rates of other comparable cities and city officials have felt for some time that raises in these rates must be made. A program for taking care of the cjty cemetery was also discussed, dis-cussed, both in regards to furnishing fur-nishing lot care on a yearly basis ba-sis and a perpetual- care basis. All of these things will take much more study, therefore it was decided to call a special meeting of the council for Thursday Thurs-day evening, April 24 with the new power and water rates and cemetery care problems to be special business of the meeting. |
