Show Centerville Resident Dies at 94 During Visit With Son Raquel Barber, 94, of Centerville, Center-ville, well known to many Cedar City people through his frequent visits here with his daughter, Mrs. Stanley Pradshaw, died on Wednesday, April 6, of causes incident in-cident to ag?. He was visiting at the home of a son In Denver, when death occurred. Funeral services were conducted conduct-ed in the Centerville First Ward chapel Monday afternoon, and burial was in the Centerville cemetery. A longtime resident of Centerville, Center-ville, Mr. Barber was born In Cheddingly, Sussex, England on Sept. 11, 1860, a son of David and Sarah French Barber. He came to the United States at the age of 17, a member of a family fam-ily of converts to the L D S church. He operated a grocery store and meat market In Centerville for many years, and later devoted devot-ed his time to developing fruit and truck garden farms in the area. Always an active member of the church, he served in numerous numer-ous capacities, including ward clerk and president of the Elders' Eld-ers' quorum, and filled a mission mis-sion to England in 1896. On Feb. 11. 1885, he married Elizabeth Emilv Whittaker in the Logan L D S Temple. Mrs. Barber Bar-ber died in 1951 and Mr. Barber had resided with his children most of the time since. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Ezra T. (Ramona) Benson, Midvale and Washington, D. C; Mrs. George J. (Nora) Miles, Centerville, Cen-terville, and Mrs. Stanley (Christy) (Chris-ty) Bradshaw, Cedar City; two sons, Dr. William J. Barber, and Dr. Edgar W. Barber, both of Denver; a sister, Mrs. William (Emily Wilcox) Syracuse, N. Y.; two brothers, Arthur Barber, St. Anthony, Idaho, and Frank Barber, Bar-ber, Hurricane, Utah. Also surviving surviv-ing are 22 grandchildren, 30 great-grand children and two great-great-grandchildren. |
