Show Education Board Completes Year's Calendar School calendar for the 1955-56 1955-56 year in Iron County was approved ap-proved by the board of education Monday with the opening of school set for Sept. 6, and the closing on May 24, providing for 176 days of school in the year. A teachers institute will be held on Sept. 1, 2 and 3 with the continuation of local meetings meet-ings on Sept. 5, with teachers gathering at their home schools. The remainder of the calendar includes Utah Education Association Asso-ciation convention on Oct. 13 and 14; Thanksgiving holiday on Nov. 25 and 26. The Christmas holidays holi-days will begin at noon Dec. 23, and continue until Jan. 3. The spring vacation will be on Mar. 16 and 17. At the meeting Monday the board approved the installation of lights in the rear of the West Elementary school building, in keeping with a city-wide campaign cam-paign to have all places well lighted where young people gather ga-ther for any type of activity. A delegation from the two Cedar Ce-dar City camps ot the Daughters Daugh-ters of Utah Pioneers met with the board to seek permission to purchase the Lund school house, which is no longer used, to be moved to Cedar City for an organization or-ganization home. Action on the proposal was delayed pending study of the situation at Lund. The remainder of the time was spent in considering a tentative budget of expenditure for the coming year, and discussing school legislation. |
