Uintah thumped Cyprus in two Cypros dod flws.gj m (roues ' The Cyprus Pirates smeared the Utes in Vernal on Sept. 30, but the Uintah volleyball team gained revenge for the setback and jumped into a first place tie in Region 7 when they crushed the Pirates in Salt Lake City, Saturday at the University of Utah in two straight games, 15 to 4 and 15 to 6. Uintah and Cyprus are tied for first place in Region 7 at 5 wins and 1 loss. The Utes have an overall record of 10 wins and 2 losses. Uintah jumped out to a 3-0 lead on service points by Jodene Merkley and Margie Dalev Cyprus cut Uintah's advantage to 3 to 2, but the Utes scored seven straight points to take a 10-2 lead. Chris Mott delivered six points in a row from the serving lane and Darian Abegglen added one point to enable the Utes to take an eight point lead. The Pirates scored two points to cut the Utes' advantage to six points, 10 to 4. A powerful shot over the net by Daley stopped the Pirate rally and Daley connected with the volleyball once again to increase Uintah's lead to 11 to 4. Uintah picked up three more points for a 14 to 4 lead and Mott blasted the ball over the net for the winning point, which gave the Uintah Utes a 15 to 4 victory over the Cyprus Pirates in the first game.
