Outsiders have been dismayed at the struggles occurring among entities in our community. A bonding company representative stated that when the "civil war" was finished he would be glad to help. An EPA representative stated that until the local disputes were settled he can't help, "settle your local disputes and work together and we are ready to help." When an official who had set up water and sewer projects in communities in most of the western states was asked if the problems being experienced in Ashley Valley were typical to other communities he stated that most communities had problems when it came to agreeing on water and sewer projects, but the one in the Vernal area seemed to be one of the more difficult. Why can't Vernal City, Uintah County and the various water and sewer districts work together in a common cause? Is it a power struggle, a speculative land grab, unfair taxation, personality clashes or just unwillingness to cooperate? The taxpayers in Vernal City are paying the legal fees for both sides of the annexation suit, no matter who wins. If even before there are boom-town problems, our normal growth problems can't be solved, what will ever happen when the full impact of boom-town growth hits us? It's about time to disregard years and years of built-up hard feelings concerning con-cerning city and county government and water and sewer development and work for the general growth of the entire area. Until everyone can work together and support each other it k almost impossible for private, state and federal organizations to come m and assist with our current growth problems. It's a shame to burden the taxpayer with higher costs for services because st?tU?newLeworK JHJ' |
