Show Use 'egg,' save fuel An imaginary egg may help you cut your gasoline bill, according ac-cording to Amoco Oil Company By imagining there is an egg between be-tween your foot and the accelerator, accel-erator, you can learn to press the pedal gradually to avoid wasting fuel. A few other tips from Amoco: Build up to a higher speed before climbing hills and long grades. Plan ahead to avoid excessive exces-sive acceleration in passing cars at highway speeds. Save the passing gear for real emergencies. Most expressways have "feeder lanes" which permit you to avoid accelerating suddenly as you enter the express lanes. Always use them. Don't pump the pedal or accelerate ac-celerate erratically. Use the brake rather than the accelerator to keep your car in place when stopped on a hill. This saves fuel and protects your transmission transmis-sion from needless wear and tear. r L-iTS-f |
