Show ianila xra Robinson ne 784-3463 Deer hunter dies of apparent heart attack A 59 year old man was found dead by his hunting partner Saturday morning. Deputy Ray Ruble said the man, a Mr. Durfey of Ogden, apparently died of a heart attack Saturday at approximately ap-proximately 8 a.m. He was deer hunting hun-ting in the Finch Canyon area. His hunting partner, Mr. Watson of Salt Lake City found him about 10:30 a.m. and notified the Sheriff's office. Sheriff's officers removed the body from the canyon area. Two deer hunting related accidents were reported to the Sheriff's Department Depart-ment this past week. Both were caused by the driver overestimating the capabilities of a 4x4 vehicle. Deputy Sheriff Brian Smith cautioned everyone to operate their 4x4 vehicles in a safe manner. Daggett County Democrats met at the Senior Citizens Center Tuesday, Oct. 28. Manila science students enjoyed a science trip toProvo and Salt Lake City on Wednesday of this week. They were accompanied by two of their teachers Cathleeen Swenson and Jerry Jackson. Mr. and Mrs. William Briggs, Sr., returned from a vacation to visit their daughter to Seal Beach, Calif., 6n Wednesday of this week. They report a very enjoyable time. Polls in Manila and Dutch John will open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. on Nov. 4. The regular dinner was held for the senior citizens Wednesday at noon. In the afternoon some stayed and visited, played cards or tied on a senior citizen quilt. Following several days of beautiful weather, Sunday was cloudy and stormy looking. In the evening it started to snow, but only a little snow was on the grass the next morning. It started to snow again and put several inches down in the forenoon but was melting at the same time. Mrs. Norman Long's mother, Mrs. Vonda Batty of Vernal, spend 3 days visiting the Longs in Manila last week. Mr. and Mrs. Devan Long of Salt Lake City were home last weekend at the home of Devan's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Long. Both Devan and his wife are working and going to school in Salt Lake City. Mrs. Elbert Steinaker, Sr., is visiting 'her sister Pat O'Kelly in the Chicago, 111. area. Saturday morning was the last day for the sanitary landfill to be open on Saturdays unless the Council makes a change. The regular opening of the dump and the Monday garbage pickup will continue. Mrs. Marion Sexton's daughter, Mrs. Swaner, left Sunday to return to her home in Olympia, Wash. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Christensen of Brigham City, visited with two of their children, Mrs. Cloyd Reed and Dixon . Christensen and their families last week. Mrs. Dixon Christensen took them home on Friday. Marshall Briggs, son of Mr. and Mrs. William M. Briggs was home from BYU at Provo, during this weekend. An open house honoring Mr. and Mrs. David Glen Harris of Duchesne was given by David's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Harris at the Manila LDS Ward recreational hall Saturday, Oct. 25. The young couple were married in the Manti LDS Temple on Oct. 10. A reception was held for them in the Fairview South Ward that evening. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Darrel Stewart of Fairview, Utah. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Harris presently of Duchesne, formerly of Manila. Accompanying the newlyweds to Manila were the bride's parents and her grandmother, Mrs. Hortense Stewart. Besides the groom's parents, the bride's parents and the bride's grandmother, other out-of-town guests were Mr. and Mrs. Doug Jarvie and daughter Tammy of Vernal, and , the groom's sister and brother-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Andy (Carma Jean) McKay of St. Anthony, Idaho. David lived in Manila as a small boy and his maternal grandmother Mrs. Martha Nelson, paternal grandfather Ronnie Harris, 2 aunts, Mrs. Levi Reed, Jr.; and Mrs. Deri Reed and several cousins live in Manila. The couple will make their home in Duchesne, Utah where the bride teaches school and David is employed by the Bureau of Reclamation. On Friday, October 24, at 7 p.m. Merlyn Reynold, area advisor for the aging program met with the Manila Council for the aging at the Senior Citizen Center to help reorganize the local board. Fern Ferrero resigned as president. Charles Murphy was chosen to be the council president; Agnes Briggs, vice president; Averil Schofield, secretary-historian. Other board members are Don Larsen and Scott Mitchell. Mrs. Ferrero was hired as the new director. Manila Elementary School children (kindergarten through 6th grade) enjoyed a field trip to Dinosaur Land on Wednesday, Oct. 22. After going to the quarry and seeing how the dinosaurs were removed from the earth and learning all about them, they went to the museum in Vernal. Later they had their lunch in the park before coming home. Teachers accompanying them were Florence' 'Murphy, 'Carles "TV-fur-'" phy, Sheila Davis, Pam Monson and , Layne Potter. Parents accompanying them were Mrs. Lenita Steinaker, Mrs. Anna Marquez, and Mrs. Tom Maloy. David Rosser is the new counselor for the Manila LDS Bishopric. Ac-councement Ac-councement of the change in his position was made by President Albert H. Neff, a member of the Green River, Wyo., LDS Stake Presidency at the Sunday Sacrament services. Bishop William M. Briggs' other counselor is Steve Neff. David Rosser was chosen to , take the place of former counselor Glen Haney. Rosser was serving as Elder's Quorum president. Gene Hullinger is the new elder's president. |
