Show STATE FAIR HEAD OUTLINES PRIZES David H. Thomas, president of the Utah State Fair Association and director of the Industry department, de-partment, today announced the other members of the Fair Board, the departments they head, and the amount of premium money being offered by each division from the total of $25,000 set aside for the 1948 Utah State Fair, to be held September 18th to 25th, at Salt Lake City. Mr. Thomas reported that the Home Arts, under the direction of Mrs. Pearl Hunsaker, Honeyville, vice president, would offer $850.-00 $850.-00 in premiums. The Sheep and Swine departments, headed by Nels L. Petersen, Hinckley, and Burke McArthur, Mt. Pleasant, will both have approximately $2,-000.00 $2,-000.00 to distribute among win-netrs win-netrs in these divisions. The Junior Jun-ior Department, comprising the 4-H Club and Future Farmers of America groups, will split $3,000.-00 $3,000.-00 among the two units. In the Light Horse and Draft Horse departments, Mr Thomas stated that about $516.00 would be offered in each of- the nine classes of these two departments. Reporting for the Beef and Dairy Cattle departments, Mr. Thomas Ssaid that a sum over $3,700.00 has been allotted these divisions. Directors Di-rectors for these departments are H. Grant Ivins.Salt Lake City, Light Horse; Clyde Ritchie, Charleston, Char-leston, Draft Horses and Beef Cattle; and Merrill N. Warnick, Pleasant Grove, Dairy Cattle. Mr. Ivins also heads the Poultry, Pigeon Pi-geon and Rabbitt departments, and, according to Mr. Thomas, liberal premiums will be offered in these divisions. In the Agriculture and Horticulture Horti-culture department, headed by George Stallings, Eden, Mr. Thomas Tho-mas stated that over $1,000.00 is being offered to exhibitors. Others departments of the State Fair have various premiums and awards to make, according to Mr. Thomas, and include the Music and Floriculture departments, Art and Education and Mining departments, depart-ments, headed by Miss Lisle Bradford, Brad-ford, Philo T. Farnsworth and Harold Bowman, respectively. Mr. Thomas announced that all departments of the State Fair will be in full operation, and that premiums, awards, ribbons, trophies, tro-phies, etc., are being offered in I each division. Mr. Thomas further stated that the Premium List is off the press and ready for distribution distri-bution to all who request it from Sheldon R.
