Show Ms Participate In 20-JHilc iiiinlaiii Hiking Trip At 5 a.m. on Friday. August 13th, thirteen scouts, including in-cluding tlioir leader were transported to Rock Canyon in Provo hy Ernest Boycr. troop committee chairman- Fred the scouts had struggled. By noon they were back in camp eating a well earned dinner. More games and then the tedious' journey jour-ney over the Maple Flat hump into Slate Canyon was undertaken. Darkness overtook some before they were out of the canyon, but by 9 p. m. all had safely completed comple-ted the 20 mile hike. Griffiths and Loyd Bird. After a five hour hike with heavily laden packs, camp was made at Cold Springs in the second right hand fork at the base of Provo Peak. When dinner was eaten and weary bodies rested, scout games were enjoyed throughout the afternoon. Evening brought a chorus of Coyotes which could 'be heard in the" distance. A little nervous perhaps, per-haps, some of the boys slept with their hatchets near at hand. At the crack of dawn all were on the trail to commence the gruelling hike to the top of the peak. While ascending the steep slopes, two large buck deer were seen in a nearby ptne grove. The summit was reached by 9 a. m. and the world lay at their feet. Even Great Salt Lake could be seen in the hazy distance. An eagle soared below, emphasizing the altitude (11,054 feet) to which |
