Show FURNACE KKEAKOUT AT GENEVA SLOWS PRODUCTION MnlntiMimu'e and repair crews sr0 rushing ropnir work on the number tluvo blast furnace t the Gonevii Stool plant, officials report. re-port. The furnace '"broke out" late Woiinosday. The loss of the blast furnace will cut down pip iron production to approximately one-third and in turn cause stool production to cut down one-third temporarily, since the open hearth furnaces are dependent de-pendent on the blast furnaces for pip iron to compound into steel, officials said. No layoff of employes, is contemplated, con-templated, said plant officials, since within two days scrap iron will be shipped in to replace the pig iron in making the finished steel in open hearth furnaces. "This cutdown is not expected to interfere with overall produc-iron produc-iron because of scrap iron to be used in place of the needed pig iron," declared R. G. Glass, vice president and manager of operation opera-tion for the plant. Complete reconstruction is expected ex-pected within four weeks. |
