Show Utah State Fair Dates Set September 18-25 Utah's 1948 State Fair will be held in Salt Lake City, September 18 through 25, according to word just released from the State Fair Board office. In making the announcement for the Board, David H. Thomas, President of th-e Utah State Fair Association, stated that all departments de-partments of the Fair would be in full operaion his year. This marks the first time in recent years that conditions have permitted a full-scale full-scale State Fair, he stated. "We will have among the attractions attrac-tions at the Fair the largest industrial ind-ustrial exhibit we have ever had," Mr. Thomas said. "The Utah Junior Jun-ior Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring spon-soring the sale of space for us in this department and are doing a masterful job." It is contemplated that both floors of the huge Industrial Indus-trial Building will be brim-full of exciting -exhibits depicting the growth, development and wealth of present-day Utah and, according accord-ing to Mr. Thomas, the early interest in-terest shown by exhibitors in all departments of the Fair indicates that a reaj exposition awaits Fair visitors. Mr. Thomas further stated that the largest display of agriculture machinery and implements ever to be assembled for a State Fair will be in evidence during the eight days of the Fair's duration. "Over 128,000 square feet of outdoor out-door space has been booked by the various firms handling machinery and implement lines," Mr. Thomas said. "We feel this is also indica- tive of the great interest being shown in our annual State Fair." Mr. Thomas explained that these equipment displays would all toe grouped in close proximity to each other, allowing visitors to the Fair to make comparisons, and see the exhibits with a minium of effort on their part. "For the first time in State Fair history," Mr. Thomas stated, "we are arranging something special for children." The special he speaks of is "Enchanted Land," the area being constructed especially for kiddies. This area will house things of interest to little tots, and will have a Walt Disney and Mother Goose background, displaying characters from both these sources. sour-ces. "The entertainment features at this year's Fair will be outstanding," outstand-ing," Mr. Thomas said. He explains ex-plains that besides the Utah State Fair Revue of 1948, the large show planned for two shows daily, in the new Coliseum, there will be several sever-al free acts, some of them thrill acts, the like of which have never been seen in Utah before. There will be two big free shows, "The General Motors Previews of Progress" Pro-gress" and "Western Special," a large exhibit from the U. S. Department De-partment of Agriculture. There will be four days of intimate revues, re-vues, during which the Miss America Amer-ica Contest for Utah will be conducted. con-ducted. Other entertainment programs pro-grams will feature the various state contests in music, art, home arts; the many stock shows and ' other items of Fair procedure, as well as several outstanding surprise sur-prise numbers which will roam the Fair Grounds at will. Mr. Thomas announced that there would be $25,000.00 in premiums pre-miums offered this year, outlined in the Premium List soon to be distributed- In a further statement Mr. Thomas advised all persons and groups contemplating an exhibit ex-hibit at the Fair to. make arrangements arrange-ments early for their displays.
