Show Safety Council Meets To Discuss Problems Danger At South Main Underpass Crossing 1 Comes In For Discussion At Meet With Salt Lake City Officials Wednesday . Several major problems which effect the safety of the toys and girls of this vicinity as well as that of adults, were taken up at a meeting of the Springville Safety Council Wednesday evening of the past' week, at the city hall Meeting with the ' council was J- E. Elmer, state representative from Salt Lake City, who explained explain-ed to the group how to go about to get safety measures passed snd equipment installed. Mr. Banks stated that organized effort ef-fort was necessary and that the safety council should have the Backing of the city and organized jfroups to get necessary action. During the course of the meeting, meet-ing, several safety hazards were cited including the crossing at the South Main street underpass. Members of the Council at the meeting pointed to the danger of children crossing the street to get to the Jefferson school. At present there is no caution sign on the highway at this point and in the opnion of members of the safety council, something should be done about it. Cars speed along the highway at this point and many children are seen crossing the stroet at any section and at any time, it waa pointed out. The danger of irrigation ditches and a discussion of what could be done to eliminate this hazard came in for discussion by the Safety Council members at a recent meeting meet-ing also. The Council hopes to enlist the cooperation of the P. T. A. and other interested groups in working out some means of eliminating present hazards and making the city a safer place in which to live If one life is saved through the efforts of-, the group, it will be well worth all time envolved it has been pointed out. ' The safety council is composed of heads of various orgahizod groups in the city who meet regularly regu-larly to discuss danger points in the city to try and find some way of correcting them. Within the very nonr future they plan to inspect all school crossings and to determine if present pre-sent caution signs aro adequate In safeguarding the lives of the boys and girls who croiss the highways high-ways dally. |
