Taking of evidence was practically completed last night by the board of ar-bttration ar-bttration now considering the wage proposition between the Utah Light & Traction company and the platform men. Yesterday afternoon Manager H. F. Dlcke of the company summed up the matters presented by the company. He said the company did not deny that the men were entitled to a raise, but that it was a question of how much and how it should be provided for. He asked the board in making its scale of wages to consider the average scale in other cities of the class of Salt Lake and to take into account conditions prevailing here. He also asked the board to remember that whatever increase is allowed to the men will have to be made up by the company In some way. either through one-man operation, a 6-cent fare or a charge for transfers, as the company is not in a financial condition to makean advance without getting the money from somewhere some-where outside of its present revenues. The men introduced further material in rebuttal to the company's presentations. It Is expected that the board will begin considering the mass of evidence before it today or tomorrow. |
