Show READER AT BERKELEY LOSES HIS POSITION BERKELEY, Cal., May 1. George W. Hau, a reader in the department of education edu-cation at the University of California here, was dismissed today for disloyal and seditions utterances, it was announced an-nounced at the office of President Benjamin Benja-min Ide Wheeler of the university. Hau was a graduate student of the university and had held the position of reader ahout five months. The investigation which resulted In his dismissal was conducted Jointly by the university authorities, Berkeley police and federal officials. He had been under surveillance several months, it was said, by the Berkeley police, as the outcome of his allegedly seditious utterances. Hau was born In Germany, the Berkeley Berke-ley police said, and came to this country a number of years ago. He Is a naturalized natural-ized cltiaen and holds two degrees from the Ohio Northern university, Ohio, and a master's degree from Columbia university. |
