Show ASKED TO MULTIPLY VALUE OF CROPS Vacant Lot Production for 1918 Desired to Be Quadruple That of Last Year. According to estimates, the value of food products from the back yard and vacant lots of Salt Lake last year was $350,000. Charles L. Pack, president of the National War Garden commission, commis-sion, lias requested that the value this year be not less than four times that of 1917. That the request of the national na-tional commission can be complied with is the assurance given by Dr. John A. Widtsoe, chairman of the city committee com-mittee on agriculture and food production, produc-tion, who declares that even a greater food production than that asked for can be had if the people of Salt Lake will see to it that not a foot of tillable land is left uncultivated and that proper prop-er care is given the crops planted. "Salt Lake can fill the expectations of the national commission and do it in such a way that tho name Salt Lake City will bo written high on the food production map for 1918 if we will all work to that end," said Dr. Widtsoe. |
