Show INTERNED ALIEN IS ACCUSED OF MURDER Interest in Maude A. King Case Ee-vived Ee-vived by Warrant for Otto Schumann. CONCORD, N. C, May 1. Otto Schumann, an interned enemy alien, is charged in a warrant issued hero today with the murder of Mrs. Maude A. King, a wealthy Chicago widow, for whose killing at Blackwelder Spring, near here, last August, Gaston B. Means was tried by a jury and acquitted. ac-quitted. The warrant was issued on an affidavit affi-davit by M. N'. Caldwell, city prosecuting prosecut-ing attorney, who alleges that Schumann Schu-mann shot the woman while trying to kill Means, to prevent him from furnishing fur-nishing the American government information in-formation as to the methods Germany had employed to get copper and rubber from the United States before this country entered the war. Means had been an agent for the German government govern-ment in such transactions, and when he severed his connections with Germany Ger-many he told her agents that he proposed pro-posed to lay what information he had before his own government. |
