Show FILM ACTOR FACES I DESERTION CHARGE Thomas Paul Parker Arrested Arrest-ed at Evanston After Fleeing Flee-ing From Ogden. Special to The Tribune. OGDEN, May 1. Thomas Paul Parker, motion picture actor, who failed to appear ap-pear before the local exemption board yesterday to be inducted into military service, was arrested today at Evanston, charged with being a wilful deserter and will be sent to Fort Leavenworth. This announcement was made this afternoon by Chairman A. R. Heywood of the city exemption board, who said; Parker Is a wilful deserter now and we will send him to Fort Leavenworth, Leaven-worth, instead of Camp Lewis. We gave him every chance to enter the army after he had been classed as an evader. He promised to report at the headquarters yesterday, but he failed to do so. We advised the police and it was on their telegram that Parker was arrested at Evanston. We are going to make the "stuff," such as he has been doing, unpopular in Ogden. Judge Hevwood added that when Parker was brought back to Ogden from Brlgham City he sad he was ready to be inducted into service and was ready to go to Camp Lewis last night. Parker is said to have given the same information to friends in Ogden, who had been acquainted ac-quainted with him since a year ago when he was in the employ of the Ogden Pictures corporation. Bert Reading, special agent for the department de-partment of justice, was in Ogden today and when advised by the police that Parker was under arrest at Evanston, immediately im-mediately telephoned to Marshal Eastman at Evanston. The Wyoming officer said that Parker told him he was going to see his wife. Reading instructed the Evanston Evan-ston officer to hold Parker until an officer of-ficer could be sent for him. Agent Reading then reported the arrest to the Salt Lake office, where the final action will be determined. |
