Show YALE GEOLOGIST TO DO RESEARCH WORK Professor Herbert E. Gregory Will Conduct Con-duct Investigations in Southern Utah. Herbert E. Gregory, professor of geology geol-ogy at Yale, and one of the best known national characters in his field of work, was a visitor in Salt Lake yesterday, completing preparations for a summer of geological work in southern Utah. He left during the afternoon for Green River, accompanied by three assistants, from which point he will start out for the wilds. Professor Gregory, although the recognized recog-nized expert for the geological survey, receives re-ceives no pay from the federal government. govern-ment. He has published water supply papers of the southwest, his most recent publicati07i being that concerning Arizona and the eastern portions of the Colorado and south of the San Juan rivers. Even of greater importance it is believed will be his research of the water supplies of the eastern Wasatch and the western Colorado regions in Utah. He will work as far north as Wayne county. Upon the research work of Professor Gregory' has depended the determination as to whether in certain portions of the country there is sufficient water to warrant war-rant the building of impounding dams, or whether such territory shall remain as public ranges. |
