Liberty Bonds, All Issues, Bought and Sold, 'i To the end of 1917 California produced one billion and forty mil- a I lion (1,040,000,000) barrels of oil (liquid gold). s A very large part of this fabulous production came from what is I known as the Midway-Sunset district. , Dr. Yj. A.: Edwards, the noted oil geologist, predicted eighl'ocn- years airo that some day i the Midwuy-Suuset field would prove lo bo tho biggest oil field in California, al which time g .; lie drew a. map of the field, showing the width and length of the belt; after twelve years he i I returned and found that not a single well had discovered oil outside of his lines, but within -j I these lines the famous "Lake'view Well No. 1," with a daily production of over 90,000 barrels, I "Lakeview Well No. 2" adding a daily production of 64,000 barrels, together with other large ij producing wells, had been brought in. Montana-Wyoming Oil Co., Los Angeles, Cal., July 19, 1918. Vi Salt Lake City, Utah. i H Gentlemen: i f In compliance with your request for a detailed statement in regard to the territory of the Great , B Midway Oil Field, and especially that part of it in and around Section 15-32-23, I have tho pleasure . " to report as follows (and, the better to guide you In what I say, I am inclosing a map of the whole field) : About 18 years ago I rode from McKittrick to Sunset, passing over the ground where your prop- J erty and the city of Taft are now located. At that time I pronounced it good oil territory, and laid j out the oil structure as represented by the blue line on the map, and the great number of wells shown on the map, all of which have been put there since, show that I made no mistake. i Several years afterward I laid out another structure, represented by the red line, and on this structure are a number, of gushers, producing thousands of barrels of oil apiece, and immense gas i wells, which supply Los Angeles with gas, are on this structure. ti The Lake View No. 1, which flowed 90,000 bbls. a day, is on the blue line, and the Lake View ; i No. 2, which flowed 64,000 bbls. a day, is on the red line,- near where the two lines come together. j j This map is about eight years old, and there have been hundreds of wells put along each line since ; 1 , then, and especially along the blue line north of you. As for location, you are on the same structure , ' a as the Lake View No. 1, and about as far from it in a northwesterly direction as the Lake View No. ' 3 1 is in a southeasterly direction. As a rule these big gushers do not occur close together on the same . . ! ; structure, and, as the Standard struck one about midway between your tract and Lake View No. 1, .'; m I think 'the next one is due about your location if you go deep enough. You are favored by being 1 close to railroad and pipe lines, and, as to the geology of the country, it is not necessary to speak, ; H as that is settled by the hundreds of good oil and gas wells. I So, in conclusion, I will only add that in my opinion you have made a good' selection of ground, ! "J and if you go deep enough you will get plenty of oil. j p Respectfully, !;! THE MONTANA-WYOMING OIL COMPANY is Roiiif to brain lrilline well No. ,'i to the lower or Rusher 5 J sands at the earliest possible moment, and sio e roceivine tin: report from Dr. J'Mwards, the company feels more 9 positive than ever that it will bring in another "Ouslicr" of large proportions.
