Show AVIATOR OFFICER KILLED IN TEXAS WACO, Texas, July 27. Lieutenant H. C. Winter, 22 years old, stationed at Rich flying field here, was killed today to-day six miles south of Waco when his airplane fell while he was giving instructions in-structions to W. K. Abernathy, a cadet. Abernathy was not seriously injured. Lieutenant Winter succeeded in righting right-ing the machine three times, but when it was 560 feet from the earth it fell down with terrific speed, the nose of the plane beirjg buried in the ground for a considerable distance. A group of section hands were the first to reach the wreck. Lieutenant Winter was dead before the strap that fastened him to his seat could be loosened. His home was in Fort Collins, Colo., where his mother lives. |
