Rumor has it that William Spry, formerly for-merly governor of Utah, is being groomed by what is known as the Sprv element of the Republican party of Utah as a candidate for congress from the Second congressional district of Utah at tho next election, to succeed Congressman James H. Mays. No official announcement to this effect ef-fect has been made as yet, but among the well-knowu Republican politicians talk of this sort has been common for some time past. The former governor is not making any statements on the matter just now, but it is understood that he' is "in the hands of his friends," and would accept the nomination nomi-nation if tendered to him. There was talk among Republicans, even before Mr. Spry left the governor's gover-nor's chair, of senatorial possibilities for him, but as result of the turn taken by politics in Utah at the last state election, this matter ceased to be a topic of conversation. Now, however, as the time for fall election politics to begin to boil comes arund, and as there is to be a congressman con-gressman elected at the coming election, elec-tion, the proposition of running Mr. Spry as the Republican candidate for c.ongress from the Second district has been brought forward. Further developments devel-opments are expected. . |
