Show URGES PEOPLE RET1JQNQS Approach of Peace Does ; i Not End Obligations, I McAdoo Says. By Universal Service. WASHINGTON, Nov. 23. Secretary of the Treasury McAdoo today gave Universal Univer-sal Service the following1 statement: j "On a number of occasions I have urged the people of the country to hold their Liberty bonds and to part with them only under the pressure of necessity. There has been a tendency on the part of some to exchange their bonds for merchandise and others have been persuaded to part with these investments in an exchange for securities of doubtful value. "The approach of peace has led many people to believe that their obligation to hold their Liberty bonds is at an end. This is far from the fact. So long as the government must borrow it is evident that those who have aJready lent their money to the government must not, except ex-cept in case of necessity, cancel their loans by selling the bonds. "The American people have a reputation reputa-tion for carrying out the undertakings upon which they embark and this war for the freedom of the world will not have been finished until our heroes have been returned to their homes and the debts , incurred for all war purposes have been i cared for. "I appeal to the people of America to ; hold their Liberty bends, to continue to j invest In war savings stamps and to save in anticipation of the future, needs of the I government. I "W. G. M'ADOO." |
