The charity ball given in the Tooele opera house Monday evening 'by the stray Elks residing in this city proved to be the most enjoyable social so-cial affair of the winter season. The grand march took place at 9:30 o'clock and was led by Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Colson. Next in Jine were the members of the order and their partners, followed by guests. The building was artistically decorated in the national colors and the colors of the order, purple and white. Hold's orchestra from Salt Lake City furnished the music , for the dancers, who numbered about 500. 1 Mrs. John W. John Malick of Salf'Lake gave a most interesting inter-esting talk, showing maps of the different differ-ent countries engaged in the war, and explained ex-plained a good many points on the conservation con-servation of foodstuffs. He urged the club to join in the Red Cross drive, which is about to be inaugurated. Snow gave a lecture on "How to Meet Emergencies." A meeting meet-ing also was held in the evening. Dr. Calderwood gave a lecture, "The Span of Life Yesterday Twenty-rive Years. Today To-day Forty -five Years', Tomorrow?" and Dr. L. F. Shacked gave a lecture, "Diet in Relation to Disease." A splendid patriotic programme was rendered, ren-dered, Superintendent Orson Ryan ot Carbon county giving a patriotic address. Each boy was presented with a comfort bag.
