Show TWICE AS MANY BIRTHS AS DEATHS That there were more than twice as many births -as there were deaths during dur-ing the last week, is shown by the weekly report of the city board of health, issued yesterday. Births numbered num-bered 57, while deaths totalled 27, according ac-cording to t he report. That there is danger of an epidemic of measles is indicated by the fact that the number of victims of this disease has more than doubled during the week, there being only 43 cases in the city prior to the report of December 8, whereas there are now S7 caes.-or one more than twice as many. The health office is bending its energies toward tho prevention of an epidemic of this ailment. The report shows: Chicken pox. 43 cases; German measles. 2; scarlet fever, 7; mumps, (j; smallpox, 4: whooping whoop-ing cough. 3; diphtheria. I, the total of all contagious diseases being ISO. |
