Show IBSEN PROTAGONIST MAY BE SEEN HERE Efforts Being Made hy Schools to s Obtain Madam Borgny Hammer for Performances. Efforts are being made in school circles in Salt Lake to secure a series of performances of Ibsen !s plays by Madam'Borgny Hammer during the second sec-ond week in March next. Madam Hammer, Ham-mer, a Norwegian actress of international interna-tional fame, is at present in Chicago. According to dramatic, critics, she is the only person who has correctly interpreted in-terpreted Ibsen to America. W. L. Clark, instructor-in English at the Latter-day Saints ' university and recently of the University of Chicago, has been in correspondence with Madam Hammer with a view to inducing in-ducing her to come here. It' she comes she will give "The Master Builder," "Miidda O'ahler"' ami 1 ' Kosmersholm, ' ' and probably "Marie Stewart' a play written es)ccially for her by her great countryman, Bjornstou. She will also appear at Provo, Ogilen and Logan. She is said to speak English fluently and with distinction. An attempt is being made to induce Maurice Brown of the Little theater at -Chicago to come with her. He appeared 'nome time ago in this city in "Trojan Women.-'' The coming of Madam Hammer depends de-pends entirely, according to Mr. Clark, upon whether the schools of Salt Lake and those of the other towns in which she would appear will guarantee the expenses of her trip, and that this will be done is very probable from the present outlook. It is to be a wholly educational affair, no one deriving any , financial benefit therefrom. |
