By P10I BOARD AJvin Hcaton, convicted of murder when he was 16 years of ape and sentenced sen-tenced to serve the remainder of his natural life behind the walls of the Utah etato prison, will leave the prison Sunday a free man after eijiht years' servitude. The board of pardons at a special meeting at the office of Governor Gov-ernor Bamberger yesterday morning acted favorably on the petition for release re-lease filed in behalf of Heaton by Arthur Ar-thur Pratt, the retiring warden at the state prison, and commuted hie sentence sen-tence to take effect April 1. Heatnn was convictpd of the klllin? of a girl in Kane county little more than eight years ago and entered tho state prison as a life prisoner January 22, 1909. The former board of pardons commuted Mb sentence to sixteen years, and with the credits which he had for good conduct he would have been released re-leased without further action by the pardnn board in November, 117. Warden Pratt appealed to the pardon board in Hcaton 's behalf at the time he sent in his resignation and in an appeal before the board made it known that he would provide employment for the youth and give him a new start in life. Heaton hoB been the personal servant in the warden's household during his confinement at the prison. |
