Show S'SGdil PROGUIMS HDUEHY Sets Next Tuesday Apart as Day for Patriotic Demonstrations. Special to The Tribune. BOISE, Idaho, March 30. Governor Alexander today set aside next Tuesday afternoon as a lcal holiday in Idaho while President "Wilson i9 reading his message to the war congress. Idaho is called upon to show its patriotism at that time. There is also a possibility of an extra session of the legislature in the event war is declared in order to raise the necessary funds to meet the emergency and properly equip the Idaho national guard. The legislature at its recent session made a continuing appropriation of $25,-0U0 $25,-0U0 per year tor the guard, but in case of an emergency more money may bo needed. The mobilization or the Second Sec-ond Idaho is proving a heavy drain. In his proclamation Governor Alexander Alexan-der says: I, M. Alexander, governor of the state of Idaho, by virtue of the authority au-thority vested in me by the laws of this state, do proclaim and declare de-clare the afternoon of Tucsdav, April 3, 1917, to be a half holiday within the state, and I do call upon citizens to cease business activities of all kinds possible to be dispensed with without detriment to health and the public welfare, and to display dis-play the American flag in all ways possible, and do request that they assemble publicly to make and hear patriotic speeches' and to otherwise demonstrate their patriotism patriot-ism and loyalty to American ideals, American rights and to the great American republic; and I do request re-quest and appoint the mayors of all cities and the chairmen of boards of trustees of all towns and villages, vil-lages, and the school authorities in all school districts to take charge of such public demonstrations in their various localities, to the end that no section of the state, however how-ever remote or however small, may fail to respond in the spirit of this proclamation and in the spirit of loyalty to the nation. |
