Show DEFENDS SLAYER OF DIVORCEBHUSBAND Mrs. Juanita Williams Says Former Mate Threatened to Kill McNair. Taking of evidence was completed yesterday in the preliminary bearing before be-fore Hugo B. Anderson, justice of the peace, of William 0. McNair, charged with first degree murder for the killing of Edward T. Williams on February 14, in a room at 123 West North Temple street. Arguments will be heard this morning. Mrs. Juanita Williams, divorced wife of the slain man, was the principal witness wit-ness for the defense. She testified to having heard Williams make threats to kill McNair at times when Williams saw her and McNair together. She testified that on the day of the killing Williams went to the room of Mrs. Jennie Jen-nie G. Culp, found McNair there and quarreled with him, telling him to get his gun and threatening to kill him. She said that when McNair shot Williams the latter had apparently reached for his gun. Pete Sindar testified to having heard Williams threaten to kill McNair and to having upon one occasion taken a pistol from Williams. Mrs. Sraha Van Buren testified in rebuttal of the testimony tes-timony of Mrs. Lulu Karrens, a state's witness the previous day. Mrs. Karrens Kar-rens told of having heard McNair say that if Williams ''fooled" with him he would kill him. Mrs. Van Buren tes-I tes-I tified to having heard a conversation I between Mrs. Williams and Mrs. Kar-1 Kar-1 rens in which Mrs. Karrens warned Mrs. Williams not to have her called as a witness because she did not know anything. |
