Some of the .tilings which members pledge themselves to do follow: To insist upon full weights and measures. To insist upon cleanliness in the handling of food. To protest against the exposure of all food to contamination from dirt, flies, orJoiher infection, and ' to refuse o purchase such food. To read carefully all labels on canned' and bottled" goods and to report any violation of the pure food and drugs act. To make personal investigation into the sanitary condition of their markets, grocery, bakery, dairy, laundry, deiicatesseu and confectionery- stores. To, as f art! as possible, refuse to purchase cold storage poultry, tish, butter, egge, fruit, etc., which have been held to the detriment of condition con-dition or advancement of price. To so plan their orders that but one delivery a day in required. To yay Ci'sh or' sel'lle all credit Rc.rounid promptly. To .patronize tradesmen who comply com-ply with the laws. To refrain from hsndling articles of food that are exposed for sale. To give preference to food distributing dis-tributing stores that close not later than 7 p. m. Among the plans of campaign will be one for more sanitary methods in the handling of foodstuffs by dealers and the securing of business men to lecture " nt league meetings on conditions that Vxist in their business and to educate the housewives to the economy that may be effected through their co-operation. A butcher will be .asked to give a demonstration in cutting up a beef, explaining the various cuts and the alue of encli. so t hat housewives may buy meat intelligently and lo:irn to ute the cheaper cuts to advantage. A- committee, will visit laundries", bakeries bak-eries and manufactories and report on conditions found in each. A permanent place of meeting will be secured and tbe league will soon be in systematic working order. All housewives of tho city are invited to join. Child labor day was observed last night in a mass meeting under the direction of the Salt Lake City Federation Fed-eration of Clubs at the Ladies' Literary clubrooms. Talks were given by Judge L. R. -Martineau, Jr., and Mrs. Elizabeth Eliz-abeth M. Cohen. Music was given by a trio composed of Mrs. C. C. Daily, Mrs. H. E. Schraven and Mrs. Walter Bliss, accompanied by Miss Gail Riddle. They sang "In a Garden," by Nevin, and "Love Is a Sickness," by Hammond. Ham-mond. The child labor question will be made the subject of sermons by a number of local ministers today. Clubs meeting Monday w-ill also discuss child labor and means to regulate it. Yesterday, Yes-terday, today and tomorrow wrere named by the national child labor bureau bu-reau as a time for agitation of the question with the view to creating sentiment sen-timent in favor of a child labor bill now pending in congress. The coming of Mrs. Kate Brew Vaughn to Salt Lake this week for a series of lectures and demonstrations of domestic, science at the Salt Lake theater will bo a matter of interest to clubwomen. Those who mot Mrs. Vaughn last year 'and heard her talks know the high character of her work and will be glad to hear her again. Others who did not hear Mrs. Vaughn last year will .'appreciate the opportunity of doing so at. this time.
