Another effort will be made Tuesday to settle the dispute between the state board of land commissioners and the privately-owned irrigation companies of Sevier county over rights to the waste waters of the Sevier river. At tho last meeting of the land board the irrigation companies sent a committee commit-tee to go over tlie question and endeavor en-deavor to arrange a settlement of the dispute on a compromise basis. The land board and tho irrigation j companies' committee failed to agree, after a day of argument, so the conference confer-ence was set over until January 25, which is Tuesday. Both sides are hopeful hope-ful of a compromiso at this meeting, so it will not be necessary to fight the dis- ! putc out in the courts. At this session of the land board, which will probably laM several davs. reports will be heard from President V . D. Candland on the public sale of lands of the Jewish colony tract in Sanpete county last week. Bad weather! made the pale something of a disap- j pointment, but SOO acres were dis . posed of. The board will decide whether to hold another public sale when weather eon- j ditions are more favorable, or merelv I maintain the remaining frJOO acres of the tract open to settlement after the manner in which the state usually sells its lauds.
