Show SCHOOL PENMANSHIP 10 BE INVESTIGATED Committee Appointed by Civic Improvement Branch of Commercial Club. Considerable activity was shown in the departments, the wholesale trade extension department attendance being the largest. In the civic iriiprovement department Dr. A. A. Kerr was appointed to investigate inves-tigate the system of teaching penmanship penman-ship which is now being used in the public pub-lic schools. A committee composed of Dr. E. D. Woodruff, Dr. A. A. Kerr and C. A. F. Orlob was appointed to take up the matter of this year's campaign against flies, mosquitoes, rats and other pests, and report to the next meeting. E. G. Kletting was appointed to investigate methods being used to construct the Wasatch boulevard, and C. H. Wells was delegated to get information infor-mation on the Denver plan of improving vacant property. In the wholesale trade extension department, de-partment, of which 3. H. Love is chairman, chair-man, the matter of holding a buyers' convention was thoroughly discussed, and opinion seemed about equally divided di-vided on the question. It was finally decided that a special convention be not held, but the general opinion prevailed that a meeting of the buyers should be held at some time of the year when the majority of them were in'the city. A general discussion of the best methods meth-ods of securing new industries for Salt Lake and helping some of the old ones to grow took up the time of the industrial indus-trial department meeting. Ellison made a report regarding re-garding the Midland trail plans for the year. He outlined the need of more money for public work bv the Midland Trail association and said the association associa-tion wanted a larger local membership. The association made an offer of a page advertisement in its log book, to be distributed dis-tributed through the east, if the club would take 100 of the books for distribution. distri-bution. Various matters of interest to retailers retail-ers were discussed at the meeting of the retail trade extension department, and the department members approved the report re-port that F. W. Francis had been elected elect-ed chairman of the department board. |
