Show KISSEL IS HDNOBEO " ' FOR HISiEM Recognized as Man Who Made All-year Car as Popular Pop-ular as It Is Today. Recently at the annual banquet of tho National Automobile Chamber of Commerce held in New York during the show, fhe members were selected for special honors. One of those was George A. Kissel, president of the Kissel Kis-sel jUntor Car company. Of these five manufacturers, the first four wore complimented for achievements achieve-ments in promotion and financo, aad Mr. Kissel alone for inventive genius. The latter 's accomplishment calling forth this generous recognition from fellow manufacturers, is the ''all-year car.' As the humorist of the occasion put, it, Kissel made every other manufacturer manu-facturer put a lid on his" touring car." Speaking of this fact, Manager ('. N. Camithers of the Intermountain Motor Car companyt local distributers for the Kisselkar, said: The most successful inventions are those that combine, in a simple and convenient way, something useful, use-ful, attracti ve and economical-something economical-something that looks as well and serves as well at less cost than the same purpose was formerly served. The all-year car is one of this clasp of inventions, and on account of tbe warmth with which the purine puri-ne has accepted the idea, a story of its origin and development develop-ment would prove interesting. It wss determined that the only way to build this model and build it sr it would dovetail, as it should, was to construct the two halves as one. This we did and have ever siuco done. The top is not a. mere lid it is part of the original job removable at the owner's wifl- and without squeaks, rattles or draughts. The public announcement of the all-year car was made in tho middle of August, 1914. How it was received; re-ceived; best indicated by the fact that in New York City alone more than 2o inquiries were recorded :n the first two day? folio wine the publication of the advertisement. Throughout the 1014-15 season the demand for it wasfr;o great that vve could fill only about one-third of the actual orders received. There was no other manufacturer building anything of the kind, but all acknowledged ac-knowledged that it would increase the winter use of cars wonderfully. That they were sincere is best proved by the fact that more, than a score of them are featuring some sort of a detachable top this season. sea-son. We have been asked to state also hOw we hit upon the title All-Year car a-s a Kissel trade name. Just as, in the case of the invention itself, it-self, a pue.f esf'f ul name is usual I v tho most simple naiie. The All-ear All-ear car was among many suggested sug-gested ones, but seemed immediately immedi-ately to mpfit the merits of brevity brev-ity and catchiness and to carry the most pat possible description of the product. |
