Show GOOD FELLOW HERE AGAIN AND 'KIDDIES' ARE HAPPY With Other Good Fellows He Will See That Santa Claus Visits the Needy Little Folks of the City. TO JOIN THE ORDER OF GOOD FELLOWS. Order of Good Fellows, Salt Lake City: ; I I live at No street, j I wish to take care of children. I prefer them j in the part of the city. Please send me ; :' a list of names. I enclose stamped and addressed envelope. ; (Signed) : GREETINGS. Good Fellows ot Salt Lake City. I'm with you once more, a little later than usual, perhaps, but, with your kind co-operation. In ample time to perform the most pleasant task of the year. We've worked together so many times, four successive seasons, you know, that I'm not seriously alarmed at reaching Salt lake City a few days late. The pleasure derived from making homeless and needy "kiddles" happy at Christmas time is equalled only by my associations with the Good Fellows of Salt Jke City. They respond so generously; gen-erously; they're the kind who act and do but little lalking. But. really, prompt action is a necessity neces-sity this year. Already the shopkeepers are calling attention to the fact that only fourteen more shopping days are be-tween be-tween us and Christmas. Just a little more than two short weeks, and in that lime we must search out the deserving little folk we are to make happy. Must Get Busy. There's only one thing to do, and that is to get busy today and keep busy until the last needy and homeless "kiddle" in Salt l,ake City has been found and provision pro-vision maJe for his or her happiness on Christmas day. So let's roll up our sleeves early this morning. Of course, I expect all (he old guard to be on nand. but there should be a lot of new members this year. Most of you know through our work of four successive succes-sive years just what is to be done and how to go Pbout doing it, but then we will have some strangers In our ranks who may require a little prompting during dur-ing the first few days. Before we go further it might be well to say that the pleasures of Good Fellowship Fellow-ship are not confined to any race or creed. Nor Is it confined to any age. Those of more mature years may get the more enjoyment from Good Fellowship, Fellow-ship, but there are many boys and girls who have been especially blessed with the good things of life and make the most desirable of members. But always it must be remembered that the enjoyment of Good Fellows Is second to that of the little folk they befriend. Send in Your Name. Formal application for enrollment in the Order of Good Fellows Is not at all necessary. neces-sary. All you need to do is to send your name and address to Good Fellow, care of The Tribune, saying how many "kiddies" "kid-dies" you will care for at Christmas time. But, of course, it is needless for me to tell the older members that some Good Fellows must help me find the "kiddles." Searcli your neighborhood carefully and enlist the aid of your , friends. Make them Good Fellows, too; it's lots of fun. And as fast as you find I j youngsters who otherwise would have a I cheerless Christmas, mail their names and addresses to me in care of The Tribune. We act as a sort of a clearing house at my office. One branch uf the Order of Good Fellows hunts up the "kiddles" and the other branch furnishes the wherewith lo make them happy. Sounds simple, doesn't ?t ; but there's a lot of work to be done in the next two weeks. And now about sending in names of children. Be sure you say how many children there are in the family, how many boys and bow many girls and the ages of each. A nd what ever you do, he sure to gel correct street and house addresses. ad-dresses. Many Wrong Addresses. You'd be surprised to know how many wrong aadresses have been turned in during dur-ing the past four years and iiow much trouble th?y caused. Several times we were unable lo find the "kiddies' at all, and I felt mighty bad Christmas morning morn-ing knowing that some little children who had expected a visit from Good Fellow i were disappointed. It was especially bHd, because wo had on hand so many nice : things to make them happy. Now just one more thing: Be'carcful to ascertain the "kiddies" whose names you send In are. actually in need of cheer from Good FellowB. Unless you carefully investigate in-vestigate every case, we are mighty likely to offend some good people. Mot hut that they appreciate what we try to do, but they feel tliat they have enough to make the day a happy one and are ti nxious that others in less fortunate circumstances circum-stances should be cared for. This Is almost al-most as important as correct names and addresses. Age and sex also are quite Important items. For, you know, a pretty rattle that woul.l tickle baby would not appeal to its 10-ycar-old sister, and the doll that would cause sister to go Into raptures would have no attractions for brother. Oh, there's work and care to Good Fellowship, Fel-lowship, but its more than worth while! Many Are in Mind. The newspapers are, and have been for I the past year, telling us of the unprecedented un-precedented pi osperity of the country. It's a fact. But. then, thev also have said a lot about the high cost of living. That, too, is far from fiction. Then there are homes that illness ajid death have robbed of providers and a struggle twenty-four twenty-four hours a day scarcely keeps the wolf away. Those are the homes that Good Fellows must find. "Wouldn't you feel mighty tough on Christmas morning: if you believed your "kiddies" were without toys, without good things for Christmas dinner and mavbe no fuel or clothing to keep them warm? Well, come on, Goofl Fellows; roll up your sleeves, for wo get busy today. Yours in Good Fellowship, A. GOOD FELLOW. P. S. Don't forget to send all communications com-munications to me In care of The Tribune. |
