Show KID MEX SS MATCHED WITH VOUIJG GILBERT Fast Denver Scrapper Will Battle Salt Lake Boilermaker Boiler-maker Next Monday. Another mixture of slugfests and clever battles has been arranged by Hardy Downing for the Monday night show at the Grand theater. The lineup for the Manhattan club next week is one of the best cards of the winter and will bring together to-gether practically all the big drawing favorites fa-vorites of the short-round game of the city. The headliner will be a six-tilt fuss between be-tween Young Gilbert, the fighting boiler-maker, boiler-maker, and Johnnie Kid Mex, who has been the sensation of Denver this winter. Kid ilex fought fifteen fights in Denver this year and not one of his opponents went more than three rounds without being be-ing dropped to the mar. Downing induced in-duced him to come to Salt Eake after watching him box in Denver last week. He Is touted to be one of the fastest coming fighters uncovered in these parts. The other six-round battle for Monday evening will be a classy featherweight encounter en-counter between Young Azevedo, the Mexican who defeated Frankie Tucker last Monday night, and Young Brownie, one of the cleverest young boxers of the Manhattan club. This should be a fast and Interesting bout. Brownie has a wallop that would do credit to a lightweight and lie has stopped some of the toughest boys of the game this winter. Azevedo's ability has been fully tested since he has been appearing in the ring In this city. He hails from San Francisco Fran-cisco and is one of the best boys of the coast. If Brownie wins from him Monday Mon-day the local youth will be in line for some big honors in the pugilistic world. In the four-tilt affairs the main feature will be a clash between Mike, the fighting fight-ing fireman, and Kid Slater, a husky coal heaver who has been knocking mid-dleweights mid-dleweights out right and left all winter. This should be one of the fiercest battles bat-tles of the evening. Bob Moore and Willie Johnson another bad pair of sluggers, will tangle again. Johnson hails from Oden. and in a battle bat-tle here six weeks ago with Moore lost In the last round by a knockout. During the fight both men were knocked down several times and the fight was a toss-up toss-up until Johnson stepped into a bad one and was mapped off. ! -V fast bout between Jimmie Malin and Deafy Tavlor is also carded. Both these boys are "fast and game. Malin jumped out of the amateur ranks this winter and will be pitted against Deafy, who has had considerable experience. ; The curtain-raiser will be between Kid Brownie and Kid Blackie, two aspiring, amateurs. j |
