In a cer tain saloon, the name of which is withheld for trie present, a man specially spe-cially employed by tiie police bought a couple of drinks last night. He flashed a roll of bills and expressed a wish to I buy "everyone in the bouse" a drink. Two men stepped forward, delighted lo drink to the "wealthy" stranger's health. They were Marks and O'Brien. The two men are alleged to have put "knock -out" drops in the drink of the police emissary. The latter suddenly pointed to another part of the room and told the two men to look that way. They did and while their eyes were turned the police employee emptied his" glass Into a cuspidor. A few minutes later the police employee em-ployee feigned intoxication. He staggered stag-gered slightly and made for the door. Marks and O'Brien are said to have lent "kindly assistance" and to have taken htm to a room, the location of which is also withheld by the police. The police employee tumbled onto the bed in an apparently stupified condition. Marks and O'Brien are then alleged to have searched his pockets and to have allowed him to remain on the bed. They left the room and as 'they dtd so they ran Into the arms of t he officers., who quickly placed them under arrest. When searched at the police station they were found to possess the roll of bills carried by the police agent. The bills were marked and the numbers noted before they were given to the decoy of the drug artists and before he left the station on his special mission to old in the capture of the men who are said to form part of the gang which has caused many men to be taken to the hospital recently. Chief Sharp stated that a quantity of "knock-out" drops was also found in possession of the men when searched. Marks and O'Brien are being held on open charges. |
