Show POWER COMPANY IS PROTESTING TAXES Special to Th Tribune. OGDEN, Dec. 7. The preliminary protest pro-test filed by the Utah Power &' Light company in the payment of Its 1916 taxes several days ago was followed up today by a formal protest which will be taken into the courts. The protest of the public pub-lic eervice corporation hinges on the assessment as-sessment of one-half of one mill for maintenance main-tenance of tho Ogden City waterworks system. ' It will be the contention of the company com-pany that the city waterworks system Is not only self-sustaining, but is a utility paying dividends from 575,000 to $100,000 per year. On this ground it is contended that no levy of taxes is necesaarv for its maintenance. The fact that a considerable consider-able amount of money has been borrowed from the waterworks fund for the benefit bene-fit of the general fund of the city during dur-ing the past year will be used by the company as one argument in support of Its contentions. |
