Prospects for a complete ha rvest of the sugar beet crop in Boxelder county were very encouraging en-couraging the past few days and the farmers "took advantage of the change in i he weather and increased their work- ' ing forces so that a large number of acres of beets were successfully harvested sine last Friday. While the weather has been quite wet and the beet fields muddy, the frost has left the ground, enabling the farmers to make quite rapid progress. Up until the arrival of the mild weather beet -digging was very expensive to the farmers, as in many parts of the county men receiving $2.:.0 per day were able to top in some instances lss than a ton of beets in a day. owing to the fact that the , beets had to be picked out of the ground and the frozen dirt knocked off, which was an extremely slow process. Many of the big farmers have completed' com-pleted' their harvest in the vicinity .of Brigham but there are still many acres to be harvested. The recent announcement tiiat the Ftah-Idaho Sugar company will pav 51 more per ton for all beets delivered deliv-ered between December '2 and 24 put new . life into Oyf farmers, and if the present , i mild weather lasts a few days longer the harvest will be completed. |
