Water flowing from a stream above j blocked tunnel No. 3 with icicles as thick as a barrel. The train stopped wdiile the icicles were being cut away, and others were frozen to the track fn ten minutes. More than an hour's work was required to thaw the toraiu loose with steam jets. The temperature officially recorded todav is 5 below zero; at Anchorage, S3 below. The cold weather began December De-cember 1. |
