Pope Benedict held a public consistory today in the Hall of Beatification, above the Atrium of St. Peter's, in the presence pres-ence of several thousand persons. At the passage of the pontiff several Frenchmen who were present cried out, "Holy father, bless France in her struggle, strug-gle, "to which the pope replied by imparting im-parting tho apostolic benediction, smiling smil-ing the while. Others -present, including some American, Amer-ican, cried out, "Long live the pope of peace." |
