Show Lucy Gates Production of fFaust" Has Appeal Inasmuch as "Faust" has not been presented pre-sented in Salt lake for several years, music lovers will undoubtedly welcome its; presentation at the Salt Lake theater 1 .VUy 17. IS, 19 and 2. especially in view of the fact that Lucy Gates, one of Utah's famous singers, will appear In the leading role. The last time this operatic masterpiece master-piece whs presented here wa several years ago. "Frum" is undoubtedly the best-loved opera in both Europe and America, H irr been plavoa oftener than any other and seems to have a far more general appeal. This baa been explained by the fact that its theme has a profoundly universal uni-versal interest. It teaches a great lesson, les-son, common to every people, namely, the futilitv of bartering one's balvaiiori for worldly honors and Joys. With Its tragic ending, It drives home a stern truth, but it gives, after all, a message of hope. This, coupledtwith the fact that its music is of surpassing beauty, accounts for the instant, never-ending appeal it baa to even ev-en human heart. Preparations for the presentation of the opera are progressing splendidly, according accord-ing to those in charge. Since Miss Gates's return last week, stage rehearsals have bc-cn held regularly with the principals, who ar now well advanced in their roles.
