The chances of the West High school 's putting a good track and field team in 1 the -field this year are very bright, as I was indicated by the performances of I the men in the interclass meet last week Several experienced men have : been left over from last year's team, and to this number must be added a squad of promising runners who were brought out for the first time at the luterclass competition. Captain Albert Warden, Stanley ! Johnson Mosc Stiefel, George Coat.he, Percy Hansen and Lester .larvis are the experienced boys on whom the school will rely-. Warden is expected to take good care of tho mile, with George Coathe, Vernal Funk and Jiminie Anderson to help him along. Coathe won the event in the meet last week, in which Warden did not enter, while Funk and Anderson took second and third. Funk and Anderson also showed class m the Malt Lake High school long run, taking positions near the front. In the half-mile Clive was the winner win-ner m tho class meet. He easily won from Coathe and Funk and finished in a strong condition. Coach Richardson is looking to him to take a position in the division meet next Friday. Both Coathe and Funk will probably enter. Clive showed up well also in the quarter. quar-ter. Jock Jordan finished only a few inches iu advance of him, and Clive showed much speed at the close. Jordan Jor-dan is expected to improve greatly and to garner a couple of points for the Panthers. The Panthers appear especially strong m the sprints. Late Friday Percy Hansen ran the century in 10-0 which is one-fifth of a second slower than the state record, held by Creed Havmond. Mose Stiefel also showed up well, taking second in both of the short races. Swede Johnson won the 2i'n in 23:01. which is regarded as fn f ; ;,ie for this early in the season. Moe Stiefel took second in both of the sprints. The only-weight man who has shown any form as yet is .Stan Johnson. He took first in all of the weights in the recent class meet. Ho put the shot thirty-eight feet, while he sailed the discus ninety-two feet and eight inches I -"""J"" capLureo second m the shot with a put of thirty-four feet, and Hansen won second in the discs with a twirl ol eighty-three feet and nine inches.
